Ok, so I admit, I like the fact that most media that comes out is usually in English, or a romance language that I can understand. I’ve been spoiled in that regard.

I’ve only just finished 3/4 of a tetralogy, ‘Nochnoy dozor’ (Night Watch) by Sergei Lukyanenko. A fantastic story based on the classic fight between good and evil, or in this case, the balance between Light and Dark, specifically in the Nightwatch and Daywatch offices in Moscow.

Warner Brothers has actually created two movies based on two of the stories in the first two books. They aren’t bad, vary some from the books, but they made it work. Love the fact that it’s filmed in Russian (instead of English with a Russian accent) Really cool and creative use of subtitles as well.

Anywho, now I’m waiting for translation. The final book of the tetrology has been out since the beginning of last year, however the translation of the book to English comes out next month.

Seriously considering obtaining a copy of Rosetta Stone to learn Russian. Either way I’ve always had an affinity for languages…and I already took a class to learn the Russian alphabet and pronunciation. It’s always good to continue one’s education. :)

Today will mark a milestone. I was at the neighborhood farmer’s market, and a new booth was there selling organic milk. At first glance, you might think….yeah ok, organic milk, big whoop. But…This milk is amazing!!
Milk Thistle Farms actually sells their Milk on Fridays in Union Square, and then Saturday up in Inwood. Here’s their website http://milkthistlefarm.com/

You can buy it in quarter, or half gallons…(they have it smaller, but it’s sooo good you should get the bigger one). It’s sold in glass bottles that they reuse when you bring it back (and you get the $1 bottle deposit credited, of course) and it tastes like milk like you used to get about 20 - 25 years ago, when you actually tasted the goodness

Okay, this is going to be a PSA for the road warriors out there.

Do not, I repeat, do not…(even if it’s just a day trip)…hop on a plane without having spare contact lenses, meds, glasses and associated survival gear. Thankfully, I didn’t puke on the client.

Okay, so after the Scary Movie series, and how well they did, I thought I’d treat us to the newly released ‘Superhero the Movie’. Oh my goodness…scary is right. The movie was an hour long…with nothing but crotch grabbing, wedgie picking, and non-stop farting…and not even in a good way.

Oh, did I mention that the bomb explodes off of the hero’s crotch? Yeah, it was nothing but class, this pinnacle of cinematographic satire.

Unfortunately, we couldn’t get that hour of our lives given back to us…I asked. But at the very least we only paid $6 to see it.

It wasn’t until 18 hours after I arrived that I realized that I’d been here before! Albeit it was during the fall of 2006 and to watch the leaves changing off of the Whiteface mountain ski lift. This time we’re conquering sheets of ice and feet of snow, though so it’s a bit different.

Taking a long weekend to enjoy life outside of Manhattan, we had breakfast at The Downtown Diner this morning. I don’t think I’ve ever gotten better service that we did with Heather, our tattoo laden sweetheart of a server. Not only did she have immeasurable patience with my partner as he went through the whole menu asking ‘well, can you make the adirondack breakfast with an omelette number 3 instead of the eggs?’ and she actually did it! They didn’t care if they lost an extra ounce of breakfast sausage if that’s what he really wanted.

Once I regained consciousness after that episode, I ordered my Italian Stallion of a cheese steak sandwich with ital. sausage. It’s a diner, so I wasn’t expecting that presentation was going to be a major concern, but it looked beautiful….just with the simple ingredients and how it looked on the plate. I’ll say that there was no explosion of flavour…it was more of a soft-spoken affair of sausage with the cheese and other components. A really superb sandwich that appeals to a wide range of diner.

Coffee was pretty good, with cream from Byrne farms. I’ll have to ask my boss if there’s a connection there.

Thank goodness for special occasions, otherwise I’d either be talking about how I’ve found a new hole in my sock, or not even keeping a blog at all…

So…we decided to go to see Xanadu (the show). As it’s a movie that I appreciate for a couple of reasons, and really enjoy the music, I was really looking forward to it. Their marketing group put together this ‘xana-boo’ campaign, for 1/2 off tickets and an invite to meet the cast at the pub next door for a little halloween party on the 31st. Unfortunately, I had to do it without a costume change…and stayed in my work suit.

First off, I’d like to say that the show was fantastic. I think it’s been a while since I’ve laughed so hard….wait no…I also laughed quite a bit in Mommy Dearest, but, well, this was really funny too.

Okay, so Cheyenne [not the hottie latin singer, but the hottie broadway singer (Jackson)] has a great voice (and gorgeous legs)!! I’ll be honest…I’ve been to a couple of shows lately where the men just aren’t measuring up. They look great, but the voice stinks…well, this ain’t one of them.

I know what you’re going to say…..stereotyping is an evil, evil, thing, but as my adopted aunt Clairee once said, “If you can’t say anything nice about someone, come sit by me”.

But I digress…the singing was solid across the board, and the humor was camp (in a good way), and exactly what we were all looking for.

Kerry was fab as well….that ‘Australian accent’ was wild, and she (like a lot of the cast) seemed really comfortable on the skates. I can’t say enough about the other muses either…they were hilarious, especially Curtis, Jackie, Andre, and, of course, Mary.

After reading a little about Cheyenne on the subway ride home, I saw that he had played Mark Bingham in the United 93 film. Shame that I skipped out on the party afterwards…I would have liked to ask him about it, and if he had spent any time doing much research.

So in closing…I’m so glad that my fantastic partner was willing to sacrifice his eternal happiness and take a chance on a show that appeased my closeted fanaticism with Xanadu. He really enjoyed it as well, fortunately.

Ok, not really…I just got bored at work, and thought it was catchy.

Welcome to the new FaceSpacestr.com!!!

You know how you might go to the store, intent on buying a new outfit, and try as you may, you just can’t find those perfect pants, or that right shirt, or even a damn belt.

Rather than succumb to that need to just go for it cause you can’t bear to wear what you’ve got on for one more second (even if it’s just not what you really want)…I’m opting to wait and be patient.

I’m convinced that what I’m looking for is just around the corner. First time in my life that I’m actually turning stuff down. ;)
